Robert Joy | Prospero

Robert JoyRobert Joy is delighted to make his first appearance with Theatre By The Bay. He started his professional stage career with the first tour of the Newfoundland Traveling Theatre Company in 1972. Subsequently, he wrote and performed with other Newfoundland companies, including the comedy group CODCO, before pursuing opportunities in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, and beyond. Highlights include: The Taming of the Shrew for the New York Shakespeare Festival (NYSF); The Nerd and Hay Fever on Broadway; Romeo and Juliet at the La Jolla Playhouse (his Mercutio won a Drama Logue Award); many world premieres, including Donald Marguiles’ Found a Peanut (NYSF), Keith Reddin’s Life and Limb (Playwrights Horizons, NYC), John Guare’s Lydie Breeze (American Place Theatre, NYC), the musical Big River (American Repertory Theatre, Boston), David Mamet’s No One Will Be Immune and John Patrick Shanley’s Welcome to the Moon (the last two at Ensemble Studio Theatre, NYC).

Robert comes to Barrie having just “created” roles in Tommy Smith’s Pidgeon (Ensemble Studio Theatre, NYC) and Edward Riche’s Hail (RCA Theatre, St. John’s). Films include Atlantic City, Ragtime, Desperately Seeking Susan, Waterworld, Harriet the Spy, Fallen, Sweet November, Joe Somebody, George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead, Down to the Dirt and The Hills Have Eyes.

He has appeared in a multitude of TV movies and series including Republic of Doyle, Everybody Loves Raymond, Law and Order, Malcolm in the Middle, Medium, Boston Legal, and Star Trek:Voyager. For several years now, he has enjoyed examining cadavers as Sid Hammerback on CSI:NY. (More at www.robertjoy.info)

Ruby Joy | Miranda

Ruby JoyRuby Joy is thrilled to be making her debut at Theatre by the Bay. Past theatre credits include The Winter’s Tale and Hamlet (Theatre80 St. Marks), Look Back in Anger (The Old Stone House), Evolutionism (The Schapiro Theatre), Sex and the Holy Land (FringeNYC) and The Libertine (The Robert Moss Theatre).

She holds a BFA from NYU Tisch and is an advanced actor combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors. This past fall, she had the pleasure of performing in Jordan Canning’s CFC film Oddly Flowers. In the spring, Ruby acted as assistant director beside Marvin Karon of the SHAKESPEARIENCE After Hours Elsewhere program, working with high school students on a presentation of scenes from Shakespeare’s canon. She was most recently seen in the recurring role of Chantel in the CBC hit show Republic of Doyle. Ruby is excited to be attending the Stratford Festival's Birmingham Conservatory this coming fall.

Jennifer Toulmin | Ariel

Jennifer ToulminMiss Toulmin is delighted to make her Shakespearean début as ARIEL in The Tempest in her first appearance with Theatre by the Bay. This past season Jennifer reprised her portrayal of ANNE in Anne of Green Gables for The Charlottetown Festival, and made her UK début as WENDY in Peter Pan.

Born and raised in Toronto, Jennifer has brought Ingénues to life on major stages across Canada and the United States, and proudly represented our Nation at The 2005 World Exposition in Japan. Selected roles onstage include: CINDERELLA in Into the Woods, LIESL in The Sound of Music, MARY in The Secret Garden, LUCY in Marek Norman and Richard Ouzounian’s Dracula: A Chamber Musical, MOLLY in Fire, CAROLYN in Having Hope at Home, SOPHIE (u/s) in the North American premiere company of Mamma Mia! and ANNE in Anne of Green Gables at The Grand Theatre (London), at The Charlottetown Festival, in The Atlantic Scene Festival and in the Broadway Series at the Shubert Theatre, Connecticut.

Jennifer Toulmin is a 2009 Graduate of the Acting Shakespeare Conservatory at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England.

Ryan Hollyman | Caliban

Ryan HollymanRyan Hollyman is an actor born and based in Toronto, although he began his career in Montreal as a graduate of Concordia University's performance program and as a member of the Montreal Young Company. He is a member of the Actors Repertory Company , a Les Masques award winner and two time Dora Mavor Moore award nominee.

Recent theatre includes Andromache (Necessary Angel/Luminato); Our Class (Studio 180/Canadian Stage); The Mill, parts 1,2,3 and 4 (theatrefront/Young Centre); Fernando Krapp Wrote Me This Letter, The Overcoat (Canadian Stage); Mojo (Red One); Scratch (Factory Theatre); A Good Idea, Sparta, Rochdale Project (Theatre Passe Muraille); Blue Orange, A Moon For The Misbegotten, The Winters Tale (Cantaur Theatre).

Recent TV & film credits include Republic of Doyle, Othello, Unlocked, The Border (CBC); Flashpoint, The Robber Bride (CTV/CBS); King, Degrassi, The Dealership, The Jane Show (Global). Recent voice: Sgt. Mike D’Olivera in Afghanada, Roderigo in Othello (CBC Radio 1)and the voice of Snap (of Snap, Crackle and Pop) for most Rice Krispies commercials.

Caden Douglas | Ferdinand

Caden DouglasCaden is thrilled to be making his Theatre By The Bay Debut. He has been seen on stage in Barrie previously in Ivan vs. Ivan, and The Inspector General, both for Talk Is Free Theatre. His work off-stage has also been seen in Barrie, when he had the opportunity to direct Kiss Of The Spider Woman for Talk Is Free as well. Other theatre credits include: Who Has Seen the Wind (ATP), Glory Days (Theatre Aquarius), Fridays With Frieda (Summerworks), Rob Roy (Edinburgh Fringe), The Rocky Horror Show (Canadian Stage/ MTC), Mamma Mia (Mirvish Productions) and A Christmas Carol (Theatre Calgary).

Film and Television credits include: Breakout Kings (A&E) Mayday (Discovery), Warehouse 13 (SyFy) and the short films The Ties and Windigo Road.

Michael Rawley | Alonso

Michael RawleyMichael Rawley returns to Theatre by the Bay for his third season with Larissa, Nick, Brett and the gang and is very happy to be back. He played Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night (2009) and Baptista in The Taming Of The Shrew (2010).

Michael has played many of the great villains in his 31 years as an actor - Scar in The Lion King (Toronto and the American National tour), Jafar in Aladdin (SilverMist Productions, Niagara Falls) and Captain Hook in Peter Pan (Rainbow Stage, Winnipeg) to name a few. He was in the Canadian premiere of Crazy For You (Royal Alexandra, Toronto) and played Rollie Waters in the Ontario premiere of Skin Flick (Lighthouse Festival, Port Dover).

Michael is something of a SCROOGE expert having played that amazing role in A Christmas Carol 5 times in the last 4 years (Smile Theatre, Toronto; SilverMist Productions, Niagara Falls; The Grand Theatre, London; Globe Theatre, Regina; TNB, Fredericton). He will add another SCROOGE to the list this Christmas – location TBA. Please sign your organ donor cards and discuss your wishes with your family. Sheldon Davis | Antonio

Sheldon DavisSheldon is delighted to return to Barrie for Theatre By The Bay’s 10th Anniversary season. He appeared as Friar Laurence in Romeo and Juliet in 2003.

Originally from Nova Scotia, Sheldon studied theatre at Dalhousie University. He began his professional career as a member of the 1985 Charlottetown Festival company, and he has enjoyed a wide variety of experience since that summer. He has written for both stage and radio, toured as a puppeteer across Canada and the USA, provided the voice of Geddy Lee’s dog on Rush’s website, played Officer Barrel in the Canadian premiere of Urinetown (CanStage/DanCap), and danced with Paul Gross on "Due South".

Most recently, he appeared as Doc in Leading Ladies (Victoria Playhouse Petrolia), the Bullfrog in Honk! (Globe Theatre), and Max Bialystock in The Producers (Stage West Mississauga and Calgary). Upcoming: Not Now Darling at the Upper Canada Playhouse in Morrisburg.

Richard Alan Campbell | Sebastian

Richard Alan CampbellThis is Richard’s second season with TBTB. He played several roles in last season’s The Taming Of The Shrew, including The Tailor and Vincentio. He most recently appeared in Ruined for Toronto’s Obsidian Theatre. He played General Arthur Currie in two runs of VideoCabaret’s The Great War, his fifth show for VideoCabaret, for whom he also appeared in Laurier, The Saskatchewan Rebellion, Canadian Pacific Scandal, and The Red River Rebellion. Selected theatre: It’s A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol (Theatre New Brunswick); Duke of Gloucester in King Lear, Angelo in Comedy Of Errors (Driftwood Theatre); seven seasons with Shakespeare In The Rough, including Lucio in Measure For Measure, Iago in Othello, as well as the title roles in Titus Andronicus, King John, and The Merchant of Venice; Mr. Robinson in The Graduate (The Grand Theatre); Conscientia (Summerworks); Waiting For Lefty, Audience Unveiling Protest (The CO); Petra (Theatre Direct), Sideshow of the Damned (Eldritch Theatre).

He was Co-Artistic Director of Shakespeare In The Rough for three years. Movies and TV include: Charlie Bartlett, 5ive Girls, Warehouse 13, and Sue Thomas FB Eye.

John Dolan | Gonzalo

John DolanJohn is very pleased to be returning to Theatre by the Bay, having last appeared as Leontes in Much Ado about Nothing.

Across the country, he has performed a wide range of leading and supporting roles, most recently, in I’ll Be Back before Midnight for the Festival Players in Prince Edward County and in Against the Grain and Courting Johanna at the Blyth Festival.

As a former distinguished member of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, he played in over 20 productions. Roles include; Cromwell, A Man for All Seasons, Bolingbroke, Richard the Second, Launce, The Two Gentleman of Verona, Costard, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Feste, Twelfth Night and Henry Drummond, Inherit the Wind.

In Toronto, this four time best actor nominee has appeared in numerous productions. Selected credits include; Rune Arlidge, Plan B, Restitution, Trudeau and the F.L.Q., and Fagin in Oliver Twist (Dora Award recipient)

John has also appeared in a variety of movies of the week, independent films and episodic television. Mr Dolan is an Acting Professor and Coordinator of the Theatre Arts Program at Fanshawe College, in London Ontario. He is also a graduate of Bishop’s University and the National Theatre School of Canada.

Scott Hurst | Trinculo

Scott HurstScott has acted throughout much of Canada and recently returned from his fifth season with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Audiences there enjoyed his work in Tim Carroll's acclaimed production of Peter Pan and the world premiere of the new George F. Walker/John Roby musical King of Thieves. In past seasons Stratford audiences saw Scott in Brian Macdonald's productions of The Music Man, The Mikado, and The Pirates of Penzance, as well as Amadeus, My Fair Lady, Irma la Douce and Richard Monette's production of The Taming of the Shrew in which he originated the role of Cousin Ferdinand. He has also acted locally for Talk is Free Theatre in his one-man show Laughton Common and for Orillia's Sunshine Festival in Dames at Sea.

An accomplished Director, Scott has staged nearly 30 shows for Talk is Free Theatre, Waterloo Stage Theatre, Sunshine Festival/Sunshine & Company, Kempenfelt Community Players and Cookstown's South Simcoe Theatre, where he is currently preparing a production of The Drowsy Chaperone. He is on the teaching staff of the Cingolani Academy for Music & the Performing Arts in Barrie. Scott is very happy to be a part of Theatre By The Bay's 10th Season!

Kristian Bruun | Stephano

Kristian BruunKristian is thrilled to be returning for his second summer at Theatre by the Bay! He has acted and played music on stages across Canada and Europe. Theatre credits include Twelfth Night (Theatre by the Bay), Evil Dead the Musical (EDTM Toronto), Dickens of the Mounted (Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals Tour), GBS (Theatre 503, London, UK), Laugh Olympics Berlin (Berlin, Germany), Hamlet (Soulpepper), The Stopover (Allies All Over), among others.

Film and TV credits include Change of Plans (FOX), Covert Affairs (USA Network), Dark Rising: The Savage Tales of Summer Vale (Super Channel) and Dan for Mayor (CTV).

Kristian is a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy, Queen's University and the George Brown Theatre School.

Alex Dault | Boatswain

Alex DaultAlex could not be happier to be returning to Theatre by the Bay for its tenth season. Born and raised in Barrie, Alex got his start with Theatre by the Bay nine years ago in the role of Long John Silver (Treasure Island) and was part of the original young company. He has since returned over the years for As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, Midsummer Nights Dream, and Twelfth Night.

Alex currently tours with the Classical Theatre Project. He graduated from George Brown Theatre School in 2010. Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the Barrie community for supporting Theatre by the Bay over the past decade.
