WHAT others had to say

“I just wanted to let you know that our kids loved the Shakespeare presentation and the actors did a fabulous job. Thanks very much!”
Ciara Hefferon, St. Agnes Elementary

“The presentation was excellent today, the kids were totally engaged and the teachers loved it too!”
Anne Winch, Grade 7, Emma King E.S.

“Pine River enjoyed Shakespeare to the Classroom. The students really liked how the actors interacted with the audience and their favourite part was Ophelia playing the violin. The students showed great interest and asked great questions after the show. Thanks for giving our school the opportunity.”
Theresa Lau, Special Education,
Pine River Elementary School

The Theatre by the Bay’s “Shakespeare to the Classroom” program was engaging, exciting, and informative. The students and teachers here at Bear Creek Secondary School were impressed and entertained by the young, energetic, and professional acting troupe who brought Shakespeare’s comedies to life on the stage of our school. It is an incredibly difficult task to inspire wonder and excitement about the language of Elizabethan England and the world of Shakespeare in a teenager; however the Theatre by the Bay actors used a mix of modern language, costuming, and gestures to communicate the intricacies of The Bard’s humour with ease.

After the show the students described how much they enjoyed the interactive elements of the performance, and how they were glad to have had the experience of seeing this show prior to studying Romeo and Juliet. As a teacher I would highly recommend this show for both upper elementary and secondary students since the experience of enjoying a live performance is crucial to fully understanding Shakespeare’s plays and their continued popularity in our culture.
