Marking Theatre by the Bay's 20th season, Twenty Years by the Bay is a documentary film that chronicles the company's history, evolution, and vision for the future. Featuring over 20 interviews from company artists, staff members, and community members. A touching story about the challenges, triumphs, and heartbreaks that can come with making theatre in regional communities.

The Simcoe County Theatre Festival returns with six new productions written, directed, and performed by local artists. A play for every taste, including stoner comedy, dramas, and even an opera. 

Canoe Lake

Summer resident Winnie Trainor accidentally meets Tom Thomson when he comes to Canoe Lake to paint. What follows is a poignant tale of wild non-conforming love that ends in the untimely and mysterious death of a Canadian artist.

The uplifting story of a true Canadian sports icon, Fanny "Bobbie" Rosenfeld. Bobbie chronicles her family's harrowing journey as they fled from the violence and turmoil of Russia to the safety of Barrie. It was here that she developed the passion for sport and began her incredible journey to become an Olympic champion.

The newest play by Governor General's Award-winning playwright, Vern Thiessen. A gritty, edge of your seat thriller. It's the height of the Great Depression and two desperate brothers commit an act of vengeance and defiance against their employer who threatens to take away an important part of their livelihood - harvesting ice on Kempenfelt Bay.

Our education programming continues to expand. The Barrie Theatre Lab will keep running on a monthly basis in 2023 (except for July-August). The Spark Development Series, our new play development and educational program, will provide local playwrights with workshops and mentorship under the guidance of program coordinator, Leah Holder.

Plus, Indie Producer Co-op is now a national program, with three different Co-ops running in 2023!
