What does a gift actually cost you?

Your full gift supports professional theatre and community impact, while charitable tax credits may reduce what the gift ultimately costs you. A $1,000 personal gift in Ontario typically costs about $598–$641 after tax savings — your impact remains the full $1,000.

How your charitable gift works

You make an eligible gift to Theatre by the Bay, a Canadian registered charity.
You receive an official tax receipt confirming the eligible amount.
You claim the donation on your tax return (individuals claim credits; corporations deduct).
The credit reduces income tax payable — it is non-refundable and may not create a cash refund.
Spouses or common-law partners may combine gifts, and donations can normally be carried forward up to five years.
If you receive something of value (dinner, tickets, merchandise), its value may reduce the receipted amount.
